The burning issue these days in
the light of the recent events is that of "Gender Equality"
of the status and safety of women in society.Though we live in the 21st century, the
mindset of our nation still seems to be steeped in orthodox and conventional ideas
regarding women as if it were still the 18th century that we live in.
The need of the hour is to sensitize the youth and the younger generation of today about
respecting women in society in whatever way they interact with them, be it a mother,
daughter, sister, wife, friend, colleague or superior. Only when boys & men learn to
respect women as equals and not think of themselves as superior and women as inferior

can we think of a truly
democratic & safe society, a society which will be progressive and one
that will work for the welfare of each and every individual.
One should not underestimate the power of the woman - she is as strong or as capable as any
man in society. Numerous examples from the past and the present point to this fact.

The nation can progress and prosper only if the future of the country, the children & the
youth change their attitude about women and give them due regard. It is the duty of every
person, boy or girl, man or woman to uphold the dignity and esteem of women for a better
and glorious future. Let us all pledge to work in this direction.
This was the speech delivered by the Principal of our school when she addressed the
students on the occasion of the 64th Republic Day of the Nation.
